Why It’s Good To Be A LIUNA Member

The Laborers International Union of North America (LIUNA) serves and represents the hard working men and women in the manual labor and construction industries in the Mid Atlantic region by giving them a voice that commands attention. In addition, the LIUNA members are given many more benefits than their non-union counterparts. In fact, membership in the LIUNA has been shown to be a valuable resource that working families can depend on their entire working lives.

Dennis L. Martire, Vice President of the LIUNA, and his team are committed to providing workers with safer, healthier working conditions and getting them the benefits that they deserve.

If there’s one main issue that’s on the minds of American laborers today it’s the issue of pay. As wages continue to shrink, and as companies outsource more and more jobs, the American laborer is facing tough times not seen since the Great Depression. LIUNA members enjoy average wages that are up to 50% higher than non-union members working in the same positions. Also, LIUNA female members face less pay discrimination and typically have access to wages that are 70% higher than non-members.

Another attractive aspect to LIUNA membership is the access workers have to continuing education. This education can help members advance in their current careers or choose entirely new careers as the job market changes. Dennis Martire and his team created on of the most extensive training and educational networks in the country for union members and they offer more than 50 different courses designed to provide members with greater opportunities for improving their lives, careers and pay scales.

After the issue of pay, today’s workers are concerned about their pensions and retirement benefits, as more and more companies are discontinuing support for these programs. Dennis Martire and his team at the LIUNA fight hard to get workers the benefits they’ve been promised and to hold companies accountable for treating their workers unjustly. LIUNA members are shown to be more satisfied with their jobs and their lives than their non-union brothers and sisters because of the work Dennis and the LIUNA does.

Lastly, health and safety on the job are primary concerns for many workers and the LIUNA stands at the forefront in fighting for better, safer working conditions for all of their members. Although health and safety are taken for granted, recent tragedies in some of the country’s coal mines proves that much work still needs to be done.

All-in-all, membership in the LIUNA can prove to be a wise decision if you’re a laborer in the Mid Atlantic region of the country. Not only do you have a strong voice, but you also have a dedicated team that’s willing to fight for your rights and has been proven to get things done on your behalf.
